FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Why are people forming paddling teams to compete in the Dyes Inlet Dash Outrigger Canoe Sprints?
A. Canoe racing is a unique, exhilarating experience! It blends group dynamics with team commitment, the thrill of racing on the open water, and crossing the finish line together, while paddling in an authentic Hawaiian outrigger canoe.

Q. What are the benefits?
A. This exciting opportunity creates camaraderie, promotes community spirit, engages team building and enhances health and well-being. It is sheer entertainment at its best!

Q. Can anyone paddle?
A. Anyone in good health can participate. Experience is not necessary. All teams are co-ed (at least two racers of each gender). An experienced steersperson will be in command of the canoe.

Q. How many races will I compete in?
A. Your team will compete in at least two races, a preliminary heat, and at least one more race.

Q. How are the race fees used?
A. Race fees support Hui Heihei Wa'a - a non-profit Silverdale Canoe Racing Club. Founded 29 years ago, the club aims to promote the sport, culture, and traditions of Hawaiian outrigger canoeing. Q. Do I need to bring any special gear?
A. Paddles and life jackets will be provided. Wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting wet.
